Spring is coming, people! That means all the extra layers you’ve been wearing to hide your failed New Years resolutions will soon be coming off. Don’t blame yourself – winter is such a tease. With rich, indulgent recipes and warm, calorie-filled drinks, it’s hard to stay your fittest. But spring calls for something lighter, in terms of both clothing and food. Heavy Bolognese pasta dishes change to freshly dressed zucchini noodles; parkas and boots transform into denim jackets and sneakers. I’m getting excited just thinking about it!
It’s also time to step up your fitness game once and for all. No more hiding behind sweaters, and under blankets on the weekend – spring’s your time to bloom. And to look your best when the season hits, you need to start working now. These collection of 5 exercises to lose weight fast, combined with a healthy diet, will help you burn LOTS of calories and shed some serious winter weight.
Sprints
Doing 15-minute interval sprints can burn more fat than a light 40-minute jog. Do 2 to 3 minutes of sprinting, then a minute of slow jogging, and repeat five times. Interval training raises your metabolism and heart rate, strengthens your muscles, and increases the amount of oxygen in your blood since you’re breathing so hard. Make sure you do some light running before you start your sprints, so that your body is nice and warmed up.
Circuit training
Circuit training is awesome for both trimming and toning. What exactly is it? Circuit training is a series of strength and cardio exercises repeated two or three times with little rest in between. You can create your own circuit including exercises such as jumping jacks, push-ups, crunches, squats, planks, lunges, jump rope, etc. Do 30 seconds to 1 minute of each one and move between them with a 10 second breather.
Rowing
Rowing is one exercise I really want to start incorporating into my gym sessions. Have you seen the bodies on rowers? Yeah, you’re on board too, right? You can burn major calories on a stationary rowing machine.
Boxing
Boxing is a great way to tone and strengthen your upper and lower body. It involves up-tempo exercises like jump rope and burpees, and of course you’ll get to work your jab, cut, and upper hook. Since it’s an aerobic workout it leads to high calorie burn, so you’ll be slimming down in no time.
Resistance training
The best way to tone and maintain your muscles is resistance training (AKA weight training). While cardio is a great way to burn calories quickly, resistance workouts will give you a nicely sculpted body. Incorporate weights into your gym routine 2-3 times per week.
