Equipment Needed

  • Bowl for mixing
  • A hand mixer or a stand mixer
  • Whisk
  • A little plate for dipping cookies
  • Individual serving glasses or a trifle dish
  • Cocoa powder sifter

Ingredients

Ingredients for Espresso Tiramisu Trifle

  • 1 ½ cups of freshly brewed espresso (cooled)
  • 2 tablespoons of coffee liqueur, like Kahlúa or Tia Maria (optional)
  • 1 tbsp of sugar
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • ½ cup of mascarpone cheese
  • ¼ cup of powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 12 to 15 ladyfinger cookies
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder (for dusting)
  • Optional: Dark chocolate shavings for decoration

Preparation Steps

Step 1: Make the espresso and sweeten it

Make 1 1/2 cups of espresso, add sugar, and let it cool. If you’re using coffee liqueur, add it.

Step 2: Prepare the Mascarpone Cream

Mix together the heavy cream, mascarpone, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl until they are thick and frothy.

Step 3: Dip the ladyfingers

Dipping ladyfinger cookies in espresso

Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled espresso liquid, being careful not to soak them too much.

Step 4: Put the Layers Together

Put a layer of ladyfingers soaked in coffee on top of the trifle dish, then a layer of mascarpone cream on top of that. Do the layers again until the dish is full.

Step 5: Sprinkle with cocoa and chill

Put cocoa powder on top and chill for at least four hours (or overnight for the finest flavor).

Step 6: Serve and add a garnish

Put dark chocolate shavings over top and serve cold!

Tips & Tricks

  • Use a strong espresso! It gives the tiramisu its unique taste.
  • Don’t wet the ladyfingers too much. A brief dip is all you need!
  • For the greatest taste and texture, let it chill for at least four hours.
  • Adding a little bit of cinnamon to the cocoa dusting will make it taste even better.
  • Want a version without alcohol? Don’t drink the coffee liqueur!

Storage

You can keep it in the fridge for up to three days. The tastes get better the longer it rests!
