12 Nutritious Toppings for Toast That Will Make You Happy

Healthy and Delicious Toast Toppings

A slice of bread is the quickest breakfast, and when you add the correct toppings, it can be a healthy and filling meal on the run. People tend to think that toast and bread are unhealthy for you, but they really aren’t. Toast is a terrific breakfast, lunch, or snack when you add the correct toppings. Here are 12 nutritious toppings for toast that will make you happy, no matter if you want something sweet or savory.

Banana, almond butter, and cinnamon

Banana Almond Butter Cinnamon Toast

  • Banana
  • Almond butter
  • Cinnamon

These toast toppings are a classic mix, but adding cinnamon gives it a little extra sweetness without adding any sugar.

Avocado, nutritional yeast, and chilies

  • Avocado
  • Nutritional yeast
  • Chilies
  • Sea salt

This is the best method to test nutritional yeast if you haven’t already. Nutritional yeast has a natural cheesy taste, which can sound strange, and it adds a little umami je-ne-sais-quoi to ordinary avocado toast. Add some chilies for heat and some sea salt to bring everything together.

Feta and Roasted Red Peppers

  • Feta
  • Roasted red peppers

Roasted red pepper and feta toast is the greatest of the best because it has the right mix of salty, savory, and sweet flavors. Every bite will strike all of your taste senses.

Hummus, cucumber, and sea salt

  • Hummus
  • Sliced cucumber
  • Sea salt

A spread of your choice of hummus, sliced cucumber, and a sprinkle of sea salt on bread makes a quick and easy snack. Each bite has a tiny amount of plant-based protein in it.

Pesto, spinach, and eggs

Pesto Spinach and Eggs Toast

  • Pesto
  • Spinach
  • Eggs
  • Oil

This mix could be the best toast for the morning.

  1. Quickly boil spinach in a pan with oil,
  2. fry an egg,
  3. and then add a dollop of pesto on top for a substantial supper that will keep you going all day.

Honey and tahini

  • Honey
  • Tahini

If you’ve never had tahini with honey before, you’re in for a big surprise. Tahini is really savory on its own, but when you add a little honey, it tastes like salted caramel, which makes this toast topping the perfect sweet delight.

Strawberries and Goat Cheese

  • Fresh strawberries
  • Goat cheese
  • Strawberry Chia Seed Jam (optional)

A salad with goat cheese and strawberries is a common dish at restaurants, and the good news is that it’s just as wonderful on bread, if not better. You may cut up fresh strawberries or go the additional mile and make a quick batch of my Strawberry Chia Seed Jam to go with this sweet and savory mix.

Baba Ganoush and Sprouts

  • Baba ganoush
  • Fresh sprouts

You can find baba ganoush at almost any grocery shop. It is made with roasted eggplant, tahini, olive oil, and spices. It’s a terrific substitute for hummus, especially if you can’t eat chickpeas. Adding fresh sprouts on top is a great way to get more leafy greens into your diet.

Butter made from pecans and sliced apples

  • Pecan butter (or other nut butter like peanut, almond, or cashew)
  • Sliced apples

Pecan butter is my favorite, but apple on toast goes nicely with any nut butter you like, such as peanut, almond, or cashew. Cut your apples very thin so that you can easily cut through them with each bite.

Tomato, balsamic, and sea salt

  • Fresh seasonal tomatoes
  • Balsamic
  • Sea salt
  • Homemade mayo (optional)
  • Creamy goat cheese (optional)

This combination may sound simple, but if you use very fresh seasonal tomatoes, the fact that it’s so simple is what makes it so great. But if your tomatoes aren’t quite ripe enough, a little homemade mayo or creamy goat cheese might help a lot.

Garlic, mushrooms, and thyme

  • Sliced mushrooms
  • Oil
  • Minced garlic
  • Thyme
  • Sea salt

This mix does need some cooking, but it’s well worth the time. For a rich and earthy meal, just

  1. sauté sliced mushrooms in a pan with oil, minced garlic, and thyme,
  2. and then put them on bread with a sprinkle of sea salt.

Avocado, fresh salsa, and cilantro

  • Avocado
  • Fresh salsa or pico de gallo
  • Chopped cilantro

This mix is like an Italian bruschetta with a Mexican twist. Creamy avocado, fresh salsa or pico de gallo, and a lot of chopped cilantro make these bread toppings go from good to amazing.
