While I was cleaning out the cupboards in our kitchen a couple of weeks ago, I came across a stash of pipe cleaners I bought for my daughter when she was about 18-months-old. The intention when I bought them was to help develop her fine motor skills by having her stick the pipe cleaners into the holes of a colander while I was cooking dinner, but the novelty of that activity wore off pretty quickly and I must’ve just thrown them into the back of the cupboard and forgotten about them.
The good news is that my daughter is now old enough to sit still for more than 30 seconds at a time, and while she’s not a huge fan of arts and crafts, the texture of pipe cleaners, and the way they can be manipulated into different shapes really interests her.
