I usually reserve my smokey eye makeup look for big nights out because I think it’s a bit too sexy for school drop-offs and pick-ups, but I recently discovered this makeup trend actually makes your face look slimmer by elongating and lifting your eyes.
And if you think about it, it totally makes sense.
By drawing attention to the corner of your eyes, you’re giving the illusion that your face is triangular in shape, which makes it look leaner.
Pretty genius, right??!
Of course, getting the perfect smokey eye is challenging at the best of times, but finding a smokey look that’s suitable for work, school, or just hanging out at home can be downright impossible. The good news is that I love watching makeup tutorials on YouTube, and today I’m sharing 5 fabulous daytime smokey eye tutorials to teach you (and me!) how to make your eyes pop!
1. Daytime Smokey Eye Tutorial by Jaclyn Hill
You all know how much I love Jaclyn Hill, and while this is one of her older tutorials, it is AMAZING. I love that she creates such a beautiful, smokey look from basic brown shadows, and after watching how easily she blends the light and dark colors, I took the plunge and bought the Sigma E40, Sigma E25, Mac 252, and Mac 242 brushes. They are AWESOME!
2. Ultimate Bronze Smokey Eye Tutorial by Lauren Curtis
This look is REALLY heavy on the eyelashes, which isn’t really practical for everyday wear, but if you take the false lashes out of the equation, this is a really beautiful daytime smokey eye look. I was especially excited to see Lauren using Benefit Cosmetics Hoola as I’d never even considered using it to accentuate my eyes!
3. Beginners Smokey Eye by Eimear McElheron
This look is basic but gorgeous, and Eimear does such a good job of breaking it down into manageable steps. I love that it’s simple enough for everyday, and that I can easily dress it up with a bit more shadow and red lipstick if I get a last minute invite for drinks with the girls.
4. Day Smokey Eye by TheMakeupChair
If you REALLY struggle with makeup, and just need the basics for getting a decent, daytime smokey eye, this tutorial is for you. The finished product isn’t too over-the-top, but it’s perfect for the office or lunch with the gals!
5. My Go To Smokey Eye by Jaclyn Hill
This look is a bit more intense than Jaclyn’s daytime smokey eye, but I think it’s the perfect day-to-night look and had to share it. She uses a lot of great products in this tutorial, and I’m especially excited about the Composed Sigma Eye Shadow Base as it promises to make eye shadow last longer and look more intense. And it’s beautiful!
