Churros Easy Recipe

Sometimes, I get the weirdest cravings. The other day, I really wanted something with cinnamon, and the idea of churros came to mind. So I thought it would be fun to do a poppable version – because why not?! 😍

These Churros Poppers are so quick and easy to make! But, I will warn you, one batch of these cinnamony nuggets may not be enough. Seriously, you’ll want to eat the entire batch by yourself! It’s easy to double or triple if necessary – and if you run out during game time or a party, it’s a cinch to whip up another batch!

A cookie scoop helps keep the poppers in uniform size, but you could also use a rounded measuring spoon. It also helped me roll these while they were still a bit warm!

Get your stretchy pants out – I betcha can’t stop at one or two!

Churros Poppers FAQs

➡️ What do churros taste like?

Think of a fluffy doughnut (in this case doughnut hole) with a cinnamon-sugar coating.

➡️ Are churros vegan?

Yes, they are! Churros are so simple to make and only require a handful of ingredients – sugar, cinnamon, flour, water, salt, and oil.

➡️ Why are my churros dought/raw inside?

If your churros are coming out raw or doughy, try frying them for a little longer. If they are dark and still raw, then your oil temperature may be too high or you may need to make smaller poppers to ensure they cook all of the way through.

➡️ Can I reheat churros poppers?

You sure can! If you are making these ahead, I suggest not coating them until after they are reheated – they’ll be just as perfect as if you had made them from start to finish without freezing.
TO REHEAT: Bake the churros poppers in a 400°F oven for 3-6 minutes or until heated through.

Recipe Tips

  • While these little treats rock on their own, you can dip them into chocolate sauce, melted Nutella, caramel sauce, or dulce de leche for even more awesomeness!
  • A cookie scoop helps keep the poppers in uniform size, but you could also use a rounded measuring spoon.
  • When rolling these, you want a gentle roll – just enough to form a ball.
how to make churros poppers

Ingredients

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 ½ tablespoons sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl or brown paper bag, combine the 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon; set aside.
  • Heat about 2-1/2 inches deep of oil in a deep-fryer to 375°F.
  • Meanwhile, in a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, 2-1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring the mixture to a boil and then remove it from the heat. Stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball.
  • When the dough is cool enough to handle, scoop and lightly roll the dough into balls about the size of walnuts. Fry 3-4 dough balls at a time, being sure not to overcrowd the pan until golden brown. Remove from the oil and immediately shake or stir in the reserved cinnamon-sugar mixture. Remove to a plate while you repeat the process with the remaining dough.
  • Serve immediately.
