A Blackberry Champagne Smash is so fun and sophisticated!

It’s delicious and refreshing, and it’s great for celebrating or just making a regular day feel particularly wonderful.
This drink is so easy to make, and the mix of sweet blackberries, effervescent champagne, and a little mint is just begging you to reward yourself.
This is what I wear to brunches, holiday events, or simply when I want to feel a little extra on a quiet night home.
Believe me, you’ll want to make this for every event after you try it. Bonus: It’s also easy to change it into a kid-friendly drink!
Things You’ll Need
- The back of a spoon or a cocktail muddler
- A glass that is tall
- A tablespoon or jigger to measure
- A tiny strainer (optional, if you don’t want seeds in the drink)
To prepare this fizzy drink, you need:

- Fresh blackberries (approximately 8 for each drink)
- Fresh mint leaves (4–5 leaves per drink, plus extra for decoration)
- Simple syrup (1 tablespoon each drink) or honey as a natural sweetener
- Lemon juice (1 tablespoon for each drink)
- Champagne or sparkling wine (enough to fill the glass)
- Ice that has been crushed
- Slices of lemon and extra blackberries for decoration (Optional)
How to Make a Blackberry Champagne Smash
Step 1: Mix up the base

Put 8 fresh blackberries, 4–5 mint leaves, 1 tablespoon of simple syrup, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice in a glass. Use the back of a spoon or a muddler to mix everything together. This lets all the juicy blackberry flavors and crisp mint out.
Step 2: Put in crushed ice
Put crushed ice in the glass until it is about halfway full. The ice will cool the drink down and mix in the muddled base.
Step 3: Add Champagne on top
Pour the icy champagne or sparkling wine over the ice slowly until the glass is almost filled. It’s really satisfying to see the bubbles increase!
Step 4: Serve and garnish
Add a lemon slice, a few fresh blackberries, and a sprig of mint to your Blackberry Champagne Smash to make it look nice. Serve right away and have fun!
How to Prepare Ahead of Time
You can prepare the blackberry-mint base (muddled blackberries, mint, lemon juice, and simple syrup) ahead of time. Put it in a jar in the fridge for up to a day. When you’re ready to serve, pour it into a glass, add ice, and top it with champagne.
Storing and Using Leftovers
It’s preferable to make this drink fresh, but if you have any blackberry-mint base left over, you can keep it in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Don’t add the champagne until you’re ready to serve!
Pro Tips
- Make it kid-friendly: Use sparkling water or lemon-lime soda instead of champagne to make it kid-friendly or non-alcoholic.
- Fresh blackberries and mint taste the nicest. You won’t get the same outcome using frozen fruit.
- Change the sweetness: Add more or less simple syrup to your drinks to make them taste sweeter or less sweet.
- Crush your ice: Crushed ice is preferable for this because it cools the drink down and makes it taste great.
- Keep your champagne cool: To get the best sparkling effect, always use cold champagne.
Changes and Replacements
- For a natural sweetener, you can use honey or agave syrup instead of simple syrup.
- Any sparkling wine, even prosecco, is great for champagne.
- Lime juice can suffice in a hurry, but lemon juice is better.
- Basil leaves might provide an interesting touch if you don’t have any mint.
