Let’s get going.

Ingredients

Ingredients for Coffee Crème Caramel Flan

  • ¾ cup of sugar
  • ¼ cup of water
  • 1 cup of whole milk
  • 1 cup of thick cream
  • ½ cup of made espresso or strong coffee that has cooled down
  • ½ cup of sugar in granules
  • 3 big eggs
  • Two egg yolks
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract

Kitchen Tools

  • A small pot
  • Whisk
  • Bowls for mixing
  • Strainer with fine mesh
  • Ramekins or a 6-inch round baking dish
  • Big baking dish (for the water bath)

Instructions

  1. Put the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Let it cook without stirring until it gets a deep amber color.
  2. Quickly pour the caramel into a round baking dish and tilt it to coat the bottom evenly. Let it get hard.
  3. Put the milk, cream, and brewed coffee in a pot and heat them over medium heat until they are warm but not boiling.
  4. Whisk together the eggs, egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl until the mixture is smooth and light.

Mixing coffee with egg custard mixture

  1. While whisking continually, slowly add the warm coffee mixture into the egg mixture. Strain to get rid of bubbles.
  2. Carefully pour the custard over the caramel that has solidified in the baking dish.
  3. Put the baking dish in a bigger pan that has hot water in it. Set the oven to 325°F (160°C) and bake for 45 to 50 minutes.
  4. After it cools, put the flan in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  5. Cut around the edges with a knife, flip it over onto a platter, and allow the caramel sauce run over the flan.
