Creamy Matcha Chai Latte

Making it at home is quite easy!
Let’s get this done!
Things You’ll Need
- A small pot
- Whisk (either a matcha whisk or an electric frother)
- Strainer (if you are using loose-leaf chai)
- Cup for serving
What You Will Need

For the base of the chai:
- 1 cup of milk (or almond or oat milk if you don’t want dairy)
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1 chai tea bag or 1 teaspoon of loose-leaf chai tea
- ½ teaspoon of cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon of ground ginger
- ¼ tsp of cardamom
- 1 teaspoon of honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
- ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
For the matcha:
- 1 teaspoon of matcha powder
- ¼ cup of hot water (not boiling)
Step 1: Prepare the Chai Base
- Warm up the chai mix. Put milk, water, a chai tea bag, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and honey in a small saucepan over medium heat. Gently mix.
- Let it sit for 5 minutes. Let the tea bag sit in the warm milk mixture so it can soak up the flavors. Take out the tea bag and add the vanilla extract.
Step 2: Get the Matcha Ready

- Mix the matcha. Whisk matcha powder and hot water together in a small bowl until they are smooth and frothy.
Step 3: Mix and Serve
- Put the chai base in a mug.
- Add the matcha. Pour the whisked matcha over the chai mixture slowly. Mix together by stirring gently.
- Decorate and enjoy! Add cinnamon on top and drizzle with honey or maple syrup. Warm it up before serving!
Tips from the Pros
- Do not boil the matcha! To keep it from getting bitter, use warm (not boiling) water.
- Let the chai tea sit for a while. It tastes better after sitting for 5 to 7 minutes.
- Make sure to whisk the matcha well! A handheld frother or a bamboo whisk works best to make a drink that is smooth and free of lumps.
- Change the sweetness. Add honey, maple syrup, or vanilla to taste.
- Make it even creamier! For a café-style finish, add frothed milk on top.
Changes and Additions
- Dairy-free option: Use oat milk, almond milk, or coconut milk.
- Extra spiced: For a stronger chai flavor, add a pinch of cloves or nutmeg.
- Chill the chai and matcha, then pour them over ice for an iced version.
- For a sweeter version, add a drizzle of caramel or brown sugar syrup.
Storage and leftovers
Fresh is best! Store the chai base in the fridge if you want to make it ahead of time. When you’re ready to serve, mix it with fresh matcha.
