This Dirty Matcha Latte is my favorite way to get a boost, pals.

The earthy matcha and strong espresso make a creamy, slightly sweet drink with a little additional “oomph” from the caffeine.
This one always strikes the spot, whether you need a pick-me-up in the morning or a treat in the afternoon.
Plus, making it at home is so much fun that you’ll feel like a real barista!
Let’s get started.
Ingredients

- ○ 1 teaspoon of matcha powder
- ○ 1 to 2 shots of espresso, depending on how strong you want it.
- ○ 1 cup of milk (any kind: dairy, oat, almond, soy—whatever you choose!)
- ○ 1–2 teaspoons of sweetener (honey, maple syrup, or sugar all work well)
- ○ Hot water (just a dash to mix with the matcha)
A milk frother or a matcha whisk
Coffee maker or espresso machine
Small pot
Spoons for measuring
Preparation Instructions
1. Get the Matcha ready

Mix 1 teaspoon of matcha powder with a little hot water in a small bowl until the mixture is smooth and foamy.
2. Make the Espresso

Use your machine to produce 1 or 2 shots of espresso, or brew strong coffee if that’s all you have.
3. Warm up the milk
Put 1 cup of milk in a small pot and heat it slowly over low heat. Even better if you have a milk frother. Frothy milk is the best!
4. Put your latte together
Put the whisked matcha in a mug, then add the warm milk. Add sugar to taste, then gently pour the espresso on top to make layers.
- Mix the matcha well: For the smoothest latte, use a matcha whisk or frother to completely mix the powder. There can’t be any clumps!
- Heat up your milk: The milk gets warm, which makes the drink comfortable and brings out the richness of the matcha.
- Make it sweeter: Begin with 1 teaspoon of sweetener and change it to your liking. You might not need much oat milk because it is inherently sweet.
- No espresso machine? Here’s a trick for espresso: Instead, use strong coffee or instant espresso powder.
- Pour the espresso on top of the milk to get that gorgeous layered look.
Tips & Serving Suggestions
If you don’t have an espresso machine, you can use strong brewed coffee instead.
For a delicious twist, use milk with vanilla flavor.
For further warmth, add a little cinnamon or nutmeg.
If you prefer a classic matcha latte instead of an espresso, skip it!
You can mix the matcha with water ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Whisk again before using!
It’s preferable to make Dirty Matcha Lattes fresh, but you may keep leftover whisked matcha in the fridge for up to a day. Just whisk it again before you use it.
