Ingredients and substitutions for banana oatmeal cookies

Let’s talk about the ingredients in these banana oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and what you can use instead of them.
- Bananas that are too ripe. Make sure your bananas are sweet and ripe. If you are using bananas that have been frozen before, thaw them in the microwave or at room temperature before you use them in this recipe.
- Maple syrup or honey. Both of these liquid sweeteners work well in these cookies made with banana and oatmeal. You can also use brown rice syrup or agave.
- Egg. To make these vegan or egg-free, you can use a flax egg or an egg replacer.
- Oats that cook quickly. You can use rolled or old-fashioned oats, but the texture will be different.
- Cinnamon. Don’t forget it! The cinnamon makes these the best banana oatmeal cookies ever.
- Salt from the sea. If you use iodized salt, cut the amount in half.
- Chips of chocolate. You can use either regular-sized or mini chips in this recipe. We’ll talk later about different things you can add to the mix besides chocolate chips.
