Simple churros recipe
I sometimes want the strangest things. I really needed something with cinnamon the other day, and churros came to mind. I thought it would be fun to make a poppable version, so why not? 😍
Making these Churros Poppers is incredibly easy and quick! But I should warn you that one batch of these cinnamon nuggets might not be enough. You really will want to eat the whole batch by yourself! If you need to, it’s easy to double or treble the recipe. If you run out during a party or game, it’s very easy to make another batch!
Put on your stretchy pants because I guarantee you can’t stop at one or two!

Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 2 1/2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Put the 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon in a medium bowl or brown paper bag and set it aside.
- Put about 2-1/2 inches of oil in a deep fryer and heat it to 375°F.
- In the meantime, mix the water, 2-1/2 tablespoons of sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a small pot over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, then take it off the heat. Add the flour and knead until the dough forms a ball.

- When the dough is cold enough to touch, scoop it up and roll it into balls that are about the size of walnuts. Fry 3 to 4 dough balls at a time, making sure not to fill the pan too much, until they are golden brown. Take it out of the oil and shake or stir in the cinnamon-sugar mixture that you set aside right away. Take it off the pan and put it on a plate while you do the same with the rest of the dough.
- Serve right away.

These small delights are great on their own, but you can make them even better by dipping them in chocolate sauce, melted Nutella, caramel sauce, or dulce de leche.
A cookie scoop helps maintain the poppers the same size, but you could instead use a measuring spoon with a rounded edge.
You want to roll these gently, just enough to make a ball.
FAQ About Churros Poppers
How do churros taste?
Imagine a fluffy doughnut (in this example, a doughnut hole) with a coating of cinnamon and sugar.
Are churros made without animal products?
Yes, they are! You only need a few things to prepare churros: sugar, cinnamon, flour, water, salt, and oil.
Why are the insides of my churros doughy or raw?
If your churros are still uncooked or doughy, try cooking them for a bit longer. If they are dark and still raw, the oil may be too hot or you may need to make smaller poppers to make sure they fry all the way through.
Can I heat up churros poppers again?
Yes, you can! I recommend not coating them until after they are reheated if you are creating them ahead of time. They will be just as wonderful as if you had prepared them from scratch without freezing.
To reheat, put the churros poppers in a 400°F oven for 3 to 6 minutes, or until they are hot all the way through.
