Equipment:
- A big jar or basin for soaking
- Mixer
- Strainer with fine mesh
- Whisk (an ordinary whisk or a matcha whisk)
- Serving glass that is clear
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Put the rice in water.
- Wash the rice.
Put white rice and a cinnamon stick in a big dish and rinse them with water until the water is clear. - Let it soak overnight.
For the finest flavor, add 2 cups of fresh water, cover, and let it sit for at least 6 hours or overnight.
Step 2: Mix the Horchata Base
- Mix everything together.
Put the soaked rice and cinnamon stick (with the soaking water), vanilla extract, milk, and sweetened condensed milk in a blender. Blend on high for 1 to 2 minutes, or until smooth. - Separate the mixture.
To get rid of any residual rice bits, pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a pitcher.
Step 3: Get the Matcha Ready
- Whisk the matcha.
Whisk matcha powder and hot water together in a small bowl until they are smooth and fluffy.

Step 4: Put the drink together
- Put ice in a glass.
Put the horchata base on top of the ice. - Add the matcha slowly.
For a pretty two-layered look, pour the matcha mix over the horchata. - Decorate and serve.
Add ground cinnamon on top and enjoy!
Tips & Variations
- Don’t hurry the soaking! To achieve the finest flavor, let the rice soak in water overnight.
- Use matcha that is of good quality. It changes the taste and color a lot.
- Mix well, but strain to make it smooth. This gets rid of any rice grit and makes the drink smooth.
- Add sugar to taste. Change the amount of condensed milk or maple syrup to suit your taste.
- Make it even fancier! For a dessert-like treat, top with whipped cream and a drizzle of honey.
- If you don’t want dairy, try almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk.
- Double the matcha for a stronger flavor.
- To make it sweeter, stir with ½ teaspoon of cinnamon sugar.
- For an iced latte, serve over crushed ice with more frothed milk on top.
- You can keep it in the fridge for up to three days. Before serving, shake well because the rice may settle.
- Fresh is best! Over time, the matcha will settle, so stir or shake it before you drink it.

That’s all there is to it—your Matcha Horchata is ready to drink!
It’s creamy, a little spicy, and full of earthy matcha goodness in every sip.
Give it a shot, snap a picture, and tell me how it went. Cheers! 🍵✨
