A Spiced Rum Daiquiri

Spiced Rum Daiquiri tropical drink in glass

A Spiced Rum Daiquiri is like a tropical vacation in a glass with a comforting, toasty twist.

The sweet syrup and sour lime mix gets better with the deep, warm flavors of spiced rum.

This is one of my favorite drinks to have at home on date night or with friends. It’s easy to make, tastes great, and is quite refreshing.

Plus, you only need a few things, so let’s get started!

Ingredients

Ingredients for Spiced Rum Daiquiri on wooden table

  • 2 ounces of spiced rum
  • 1 oz of fresh lime juice, which is around one lime
  • ¾ oz of simple syrup (read below on how to prepare it at home)
  • ½ cup of sugar (for simple syrup)
  • ½ cup of water (for simple syrup)
  • Shaking ice cubes
  • Optional: a lime wheel or wedge for garnish
  • Optional: a pinch of ground cinnamon for decoration

Necessary Bartending Tools

  • Shaker for cocktails
  • A jigger or a measuring cup
  • Juicer or reamer for citrus
  • Strainer
  • A coupe or rocks glass
  • Cutting board and knife

Instructions

  1. If you need to, make simple syrup:
Put ½ cup of sugar and ½ cup of water in a small pot. Put it over medium heat and whisk it until the sugar melts. Let it cool all the way down.
  2. Squeeze the lime juice
Cut a lime in half and squeeze it until you have roughly an ounce of fresh lime juice.
  3. Shake the drink
Put ice in a cocktail shaker, then add spiced rum, lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake it hard for 15 to 20 seconds, or until the shaker feels cold.

Shaking a Spiced Rum Daiquiri in shaker

  1. Strain
Pour the cocktail through a strainer into a chilled coupe glass or rocks glass.
  2. Add a garnish and serve
If you want, you can add a lime wheel or a tiny sprinkling of cinnamon on top.

Tips and Variations

  • Fresh lime juice is really important—don’t skip this step! You won’t get that bright, fresh taste with bottled lime juice.
  • Shake it well; you want the drink to be very cold and a little foamy. Shake it like you mean it!
  • Chill Your Glass: Put your glass in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes before serving to make it even more impressive.
  • Change the Sweetness: If you like your drink sweeter, add a bit more simple syrup, but don’t go overboard.
  • Make It Kid-Friendly: If you have kids, make them feel involved by giving them a “mocktail” version with apple juice, lime, and a dash of cinnamon syrup.
  • No Rum with Spices? Add a little cinnamon or nutmeg to normal dark rum.
  • Add a little honey or agave instead of simple syrup to make it sweeter.
  • Add a kick: Before shaking, muddle a few slices of fresh ginger to give it a spicy touch.
  • Go Tropical: Use coconut syrup instead of simple syrup to give it a coconut-lime flavor.

Storage and Serving

You may create a batch of simple syrup ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for up to two weeks. Mix equal parts sugar and water, boil until the sugar dissolves, and then let it cool before using.

You should consume this drink right away, but you may keep the leftover simple syrup in the fridge for 1–2 weeks.
