Instructions

Simmering the spices for chai latte

    1. Simmer the Spices
Put the water, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg (if using) in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

    1. Put in the tea
Put the tea bags or loose-leaf tea in the saucepan and let it steep for 2 to 3 more minutes.

    1. Add the Milk and Sweetener
Pour in 1 cup of milk and stir in the honey or sugar. Warm it up slowly, but don’t let it boil.

    1. Strain and Serve
Strain the chai into your favorite mug to remove the spices and tea leaves.

  1. Garnish (Optional)
Sprinkle with a pinch of ground cinnamon or add a cinnamon stick for garnish. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Tips & Variations

  • To get the flavor out of the cardamom pods, lightly crush them with the back of a spoon.
  • Use whole milk or oat milk made like a barista to make your latte even creamier.
  • Want it stronger? Add another tea bag or let the tea steep for a little longer.
  • No black tea? Rooibos tea or green tea works too for a twist!
  • Do you want it cold? Let the chai cool, then pour it over ice.
  • No dairy? Almond, oat, or coconut milk can be used as a creamy substitute.
  • You can make the spiced chai base (water, tea, and spices) ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just heat it up, add milk, and enjoy!
  • Leftover chai (without milk) can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. When ready to serve, heat it up and add fresh milk.
