Ingredients & Tools

- 1 ½ cups of milk, such as whole, oat, or almond
- 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder without sugar
- 1 tablespoon of white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate
- 1 tsp of matcha powder
- 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup (to taste)
- ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
- A pinch of sea salt
Tools:
- A small pot
- Whisk (or matcha whisk)
- Spoons and cups for measuring
- Fine mesh sieve (optional, for sifting matcha)
- Cup

Instructions
- Put the milk in a small pot and set it over medium heat. Heat it up until it starts to steam but not boil.
- Put the cocoa powder and white chocolate chips in the warm milk. Keep whisking until the chocolate melts and the mixture is smooth.
- Sift the matcha powder in a small bowl to get rid of any lumps. Whisk in a little bit of warm water until the mixture is smooth and frothy.
- Add the matcha mixture to the saucepan with the hot chocolate. Add a pinch of salt, vanilla extract, and honey (or maple syrup). Whisk well until everything is mixed together.
- Put the hot chocolate with matcha in your favorite mug. You can add some frothed milk and a sprinkle of extra matcha powder on top if you want.
Tips & Variations
- Sift your matcha! This stops clumps from forming and makes sure it mixes well with the drink.
- Use white chocolate that is of good quality. It makes the drink thicker and creamier.
- Frothing your milk will make it feel even cozier. Use a milk frother to give your drink a café-style touch.
- Change the sweetness to your liking. Some matcha powders are naturally sweeter, so start with less honey and add more if you need to.
- Make sure to whisk well! To completely dissolve matcha, you need to whisk it well. A matcha whisk or a small regular whisk works best.
- No dairy? For a creamy, plant-based version, use almond milk or oat milk.
- No white chocolate? Change it for a little more honey or a splash of sweetened condensed milk.
- More chocolatey? Add a few dark chocolate chips or an extra teaspoon of cocoa powder.
- Twist with spices? A little bit of cinnamon will make it feel warm and cozy.
Storage & Make Ahead
- You can make the matcha paste ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for up to a day. Before you use it, just whisk it again.
- Make two batches and keep the extra in the fridge. Put it back on the stove and heat it up slowly, stirring it well.
- You can keep any extra matcha hot chocolate in the fridge for up to two days in a sealed container.
- Gently reheat on the stove or in the microwave, whisking well to mix together any ingredients that have settled.
