Glass of rocks
Glass for mixing
Spoon or stirrer for cocktails
Peeler or knife for peeling oranges
Instructions
- Put the bourbon, espresso, simple syrup, and two dashes of Angostura bitters in a mixing glass. Mix by gently stirring.

- Put a big ice cube in a glass for rocks. Pour the blended drink slowly over the ice.
- To get the oils out of an orange peel, twist it over the drink and then put it in the glass as a garnish. If you want, you can add a few coffee beans on top for an added touch. Serve right away and enjoy!
Tips & Variations
- Use new espresso. This drink tastes so much better with freshly brewed espresso in it.
- Let the espresso cool down a little. Let it sit for a minute before you mix it so the bourbon doesn’t get watery.
- The optimal size is a big ice cube. It melts more slowly, which keeps your drink cool without watering it down too much.
- Zest for taste. Before adding the garnish, gently twist the orange peel over the drink to let the oils out.
- Try different levels of sweetness. You can change the amount of simple syrup to suit your taste; a little goes a long way!
- No espresso? Instead, use strong black coffee or cold brew concentrate.
- Change the spirit: Use rye whiskey instead of bourbon or black rum instead of bourbon for a new twist.
- Extra sweet: To make it even sweeter, add a splash of coffee liqueur like Kahlúa or Tia Maria.
- You should make this cocktail fresh and drink it right away.
- You can mix the bourbon, simple syrup, and bitters ahead of time if you need to get ready. Just don’t add the espresso and ice until you’re ready to serve.
